"Teenage Dream" by Fred Allard is a sculptural synthesis of youth and luxury, encapsulating the vibrant spirit of adolescence through a Gucci bag overflowing with Chupa Chups lollipops. The iconic fashion emblem, partially obscured by the colorful candy, embodies a cultural critique of material desire ingrained in youth. Cast in resin, this work captures a moment where whimsical dreams and the allure of high fashion intersect, reflecting on the ephemeral nature of teenage fantasies amid consumer culture. Allard's work is a poignant commentary on the sweet, yet often fleeting, aspirations that characterize our formative years.
Fueled by themes of conspicuous consumption, luxury brands, and constructed identities, Fred Allard casts high fashion shopping bags filled with soda cans and bottles in resin. Influenced by ‘80s and ‘90s American pop culture and cosmopolitan European cities, Allard’s world is one in which brand dominates product and image matters most. Prior to his resin sculpture series “The Bags,” Allard created paintings inspired by Jean-Michel Basquiat, with bold colors and graphic text, and collages using deconstructed images of models culled from high fashion magazines, resulting in surreal, abstract, high-impact scenes. Celebrating commerce and exploring the emotional aspects of consumerism, Allard views his art-making and overall persona as a brand-building “trend lab”, constructing his own identity through artistic output in the same way that luxury objects bolster an individual’s image. Fred Allard kept from this creative world an imprint, a culture, an enthusiasm which are the basis surrounding his works as an artist. His inspiration comes from various trends and cultures, from pop art but also street art, music, magazines and department stores and most importantly from the street and everyday life…It is the mix of these interests that exalts his work and inspires his creativity. His unique style is also characterized by the content he fills these luxury bags with; a way he expresses his views is by the use of words, colors and materials. In this spirit, he portrays the era of our society. His work is the picture of the moment, through brands and trendy objects.
